A bus company hired to take children to school has lost its contract after repeatedly breaking down en route.
Central Bedfordshire Council contracted KK Minibuses to take secondary school pupils from Slip End and Caddington last November but the service has been blighted with problems.
Ward councillor Richard Stay told Luton on Sunday that the Manshead Upper School students had not been able to get to school on numerous occasions.
About 25-30 students need the service to get to school.
This week the council cancelled the contract with the Milton Keynes-based firm.
Laurie King, owner of KK Minibuses, said: "We were just a bit unlucky really with the bus. It kept breaking down for no reason at all.
"We have lost the contract, they gave us an ultimatum that if it happens again we would.
"We got a lovely bus, it was an oldish one, and it just let us down.
"We were picking the kids up in the morning, but it broke down on the way to school about three times.
"It let us down. The kids managed to get to school.
"On the last occasion they were just up the hill from the school and the driver walked them to the school to get them there safely."
Cllr Stay said: "They are not a new company to us but I think they just had a very unfortunate set of circumstances this time.
"Clearly school transport is a fairly high-profile and important service for the students."
