Pervert, 56, is jailed for sexual abuse of young girl

A paedophile has been jailed for five years for sexually abusing a young girl.

Glyn Webley, 56, of French’s Gate, Dunstable, was found guilty of a total of six charges of indecent assault, sexual touching and committing an act of gross indecency on a child following a two-week trial last month.

At St Albans Crown Court on Friday, the father-of-three was jailed for five years for one charge of assault by penetration, 18 months for another offence and 12 months for the remaining charges of sexual assault to run concurrently.

Webley, also a grandfather to one, assaulted the young girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, over a period of three years, between 2002 and 2005.

The court was told Webley sexually assaulted the girl who was under the age of 13, using mustard to inflict pain.

Standing in court on Friday, Webley’s daughter Clare described her father as a loving and caring man who is adored by his granddaughter.

Defence lawyer Brian Argyle said his client was of previous good character and asked that the shortest sentence be imposed.

Sentencing Webley to five years behind bars, which is the minimum for this type of offence under official guidelines, Judge Griffith said: “Over two ormore years you abused a position of trust. There was, to my mind, an element of grooming on your behalf. I remember the victim saying in evidence that you had said to her that you would be the person who took her virginity.”

A Sexual Offences Prevention Order was also imposed, banningWebley from possessing or taking photos of any child under 18 and contact with a child under the age of 16 without parental consent.

Webley was also prohibited from working with children.
