Quick departure: Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney departs with the England squad from Luton Airport for last night's Euro qualifier against Switzerland.
Wayne Rooney looked glum as he trudged across the tarmac at Luton Airport on Monday following allegations about his private life.

The football star was about to board a plane to Switzerland to play for England in a European qualifier last night, in the wake of the News of the World’s story on Sunday.

Rooney, 24, who has a ten-month-old son, Kai, has so far made no comment about the allegations that he cheated on his pregnant wife, Coleen.

In an interview with the national newspaper, 21-year-old Jenny Thompson claimed the Manchester United striker paid her up to £1,200 a time and they first met in June last year.

Rooney’s presence at Luton provoked the second media frenzy at the airport in the space of two weeks, after 69-year-old Asil Nadir - facing a £34 million fraud trial - set foot on UK turf having fled the country in 1993 while facing 66 counts of theft.
