The best of Luton was celebrated at a prestigious ceremony on Thursday evening at Luton Hoo.
Supported by Luton on Sunday and organised by the Luton Forum, Luton’s Best Awards 2010 recognised the unsung heroes and achievers in the town.
The event was organised and run at no cost to local taxpayers, thanks to a number of sponsors giving support.
The MC for the evening was journalist John Stapleton, who kept everything flowing as a total of 16 awards were handed out.The only winner not to be in attendance was England cricketer Monty Panesar, although several people did offer to personally fly the award out to him.
Cllr Hazel Simmons, chairman of the Luton Forum, was delighted to have the opportunity to publicly say thank you to these exceptional people. She said: “We received more than 400 nominations for the 16 categories and the judges had a difficult time to shortlist let alone choose the winners”
“The standard of entries was of such a high quality that in my view all of these people are winners and make a huge contribution to making Luton a great place to live, work and visit.”
Mike Richardson, managing director of Luton on Sunday, said: “We are proud to be the media partner for the awards. This was a fantastic event which demonstrates the high calibre of people that we have in Luton.
“I am looking forward to working with the Luton Forum next year on this excellent event.”
Luton on Sunday editor Chris Gill added: “It was an absolutely fantastic evening which featured people from right across the community.
“They say Britain’s Got Talent, well a mass of it is in Luton.
“We are delighted to be associated with this event, it was truly a night to remember for many who were honoured - I am sure the audiences would consider everyone who was up for an award to be a winner.”
