Professor lands top fair access job

The vice chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire was officially named the head of the Office of Fair Access on Monday.

 

Professor Les Ebdon was given the role as the government’s fair access tsar with the backing of Business Secretary Vince Cable.

His appointment came amidst critisim from senior Conservative ministers and opposition from Prime Minister David Cameron.

Part of his role will see the professor improving the level of university intakes from disadvantaged backgrounds with educational institutes wishing to charge more than £6,000 in tuition fees entering into contracts setting out how they will support students.
