Rock the frock

Now, about that wedding dress... if you are of a sensitive disposition look away now.

You've made your vows, you've swept down the aisle looking gorgeous, the photographs have been taken, the guests have all gone home. Then what? Do you carefully fold the dress in reams of tissue paper, pack it into an old suitcase and shove it to the back of the wardrobe to moulder for all eternity? Maybe you intend to sell it on E-bay or give it away to a charity shop. Or perhaps you are hanging on to it so that your own little girl can wear it at her wedding. Oh please, get real. In twenty or thirty years time if you have a daughter is she really going to sob with gratitude at the thought of wearing your moth-balled, dated gown?

So how about trashing it? It's yours, it's done its job and it's fun - according to the growing number of brides who are slipping back into the dress and then sliding down into the mud or scrambling up onto the haystack.

None of this will go unnoticed you understand; a photographer will be with you every step of the way. But it's the opposite of the wedding album shots when there's not a hair out of place or a speck of dust on a shoe. You don't actually have to rip your gorgeous gown to pieces or go skydiving in it but the setting for your post-wedding photo shoot won't be the manicured lawns of the reception venue. Strike a wild pose in front of an old barn or a disused factory or sit astride a whopping great motorbike and you immediately create your very own fashion shots.

Some folk may shudder at the very thought of such disrespect but others claim it is demonstrating a commitment to marriage - wearing the wedding dress was a once-in-a lifetime experience so the last thing you intend is to do it all again.
