The Dress

Never has any one garment been so discussed, analysed and agonised over as the wedding dress.

Whether you want to be the perfect princess, gorgeously glamorous or vampishly vintage, what you wear on your wedding day must make you look - and feel - fabulous!

But what style do you favour? Should you go for a traditional floor-sweeper with a train or, if you are shorter in stature, an ankle-length wedding dress that keeps the formality of the bridal gown without drowning you?

If a full-length wedding dress doesn't appeal or you're planning on a less formal occasion there are some lovely shorter styles on the market.

Then there is the colour. Even white comes in numerous shades so if a traditional white bridal gown is your dream outfit search out the right white for your skintone. If your heart isn't set on the traditional virginal look there are shades of oyster, soft blush and cream that may be more flattering to your complexion.

So simple, classic or something a little more on trend? When it comes to wedding dress design, it's all about expressing your personality through the little details that make up your own style.

Ruffles, trims and beading add a feminine touch to the simple shapes that have been popular for the past few years. And not only are floral motifs growing in popularity but, since the royal wedding of Wills and Kate, lace has suddenly exploded onto the scene.

Whether as an accent such as detailing on the bodice, used across the whole dress, as a shrug or, as on Kate Middleton's Sarah Burton-designed dress, across the shoulders and as the sleeves, lace is just the most feminine fabric and can be teamed with other accessories such as those for the hair, continuing the vintage trend through 2012 and beyond.
