The remaining bakers return to the tent for the Great British Bake off semi-finals tonight and the pressure is on as they get to grips with chocolate.
Former Luton student Nadiya Hussain joins remaining bakers Tamal Ray, Ian Cumming, Flora Shedden in the Bake Off tent to bake for a place in the finals.
The signature challenge kicks off with the bakers revisiting their old friend pastry but this time it has be chocolate, one of the most difficult ingredients to work with.
The bakers must conjure up chocolate tarts as tempered chocolate, mirrored glazes and peanuts abound. Judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry will be scrutinising every detail as they work through ganaches, mousse, caramel and fruit flavourings served up by the semi-finalists.
If the first challenge wasn’t difficult enough, Mary sets the technical this week which has the added pressure of being so quick the bakers need staggered start times.
Perplexed and on edge, the bakers find things don’t get much better when they discover they have to make chocolate soufflé. As the pressure mounts can they keep a cool head and deliver a well risen and light soufflé?
Following on from the structural challenges of last week’s patisserie challenges, architecture takes centre stage again for the chocolate show stopper. The bakers get artistic to create stunning chocolate centrepieces that must look and taste amazing.
But with a place in the final at stake who will fall at the final hurdle?
The Great British Bake Off will broadcast tonight (30 September) at 8pm on BBC One.
