Away from his speech to the Conservative Party Conference tomorrow, David Cameron will have one eye on the final of this year’s Great British Bake Off, and for him there can be only one winner.

The Prime Minister is an avid baker and a big fan of the show which he watches with his children Nancy, 11, Elwen, 9 and Florence, 5.

But rather than diplomatically sitting on the fence when discussing who he thinks the eventual winner of the competition should be, he is firmly in Nadiya’s corner.

Nadiya Hussain is up against Ian Cumming and Tamal Ray in tomorrow’s final, but the Prime Minister has shown his support for the Luton baker, describing her as being “so cool under pressure”.

Despite being favourite to win the competition, the 30-year-old mum of three revealed she was worried viewers would not warm to her because as a devout Muslim she wears a headscarf.

“I was a bit nervous that perhaps people would look at me, a Muslim in a headscarf, and wonder if I could bake,” she said.

“But I hope that people have realised that I can — and just because I’m not a stereotypical British person, it doesn’t mean that I am not into bunting, cake and tea.

“I’m just as British as anyone else, and I hope I have proved that.”

The final of The Great British Bake Off 2015 is scheduled for broadcast tomorrow night (October 7) at 8pm on BBC ONE.
